A spiritual warfare poem describing the unseen battle within the soul and the victory of Christ.
I woke before the sunrise,
But the war had already begun.
No bullets, no banners—just silence,
And a whisper that I was undone.
Then I remembered the call,
“Put on the whole armor of God.”
So I reached for what could not be seen—
Steel forged by the Word and the rod.
I buckled truth around my waist,
It held me firm, it kept me straight.
No lie could twist my spine today,
No whisper of doubt could dominate.
I tied the breastplate over my chest,
Where old wounds tried to bleed again.
Righteousness covered every scar—
My shame no longer had a name.
I stepped into the gospel shoes,
Ready to move, to stand, to run.
Each step a strike against the dark,
Each stride declaring, “It is done!”
I lifted up the shield of faith—
Not just to block, but to defy.
Every dart of fear, lust, or pride
Died flaming as it hit the sky.
Then came the helmet—hope divine,
Covering the battlefield of my mind.
No anxious thought, no lie of hell
Could touch the saved soul it confined.
And then I gripped the sword—
Not of metal, but of the Word.
Sharper than any blade of man,
It split deception when it stirred.
Fully clothed in unseen light,
I stood—not perfect, but prepared to fight.
For the war is real, the stakes are high,
But Christ is with me—so I do not die.
So if you see me quiet and still,
Don’t think I’m unarmed or weak of will.
I’ve clothed myself in holy flame—
And by His might, I bear His name.
